Stranger Things - Ed Benguiat

Stranger Things: meet the design genius behind TV's most talked about title font

Wow, what a series! And for 80's horror, sci-fi and Stephen King enthusiasts - what a typeface! That's the thing about beautiful typography used in promotional artwork - you know EXACTLY what you are about to watch.  In the case of Stranger Things, the simplicity of using a neon typeface on a black background to communicate this is somewhat astounding.

Above is a great little article on the creator of ITC Benguiat (used in Stranger Things and many of the vintage Stephen King covers) - Ed Benguiat. This guy was a teenage fighter pilot in WW2 - what a legend! I feel truly inspired and am looking to find out more about this amazing designer.

Flat Vectors in C4D

I watched a really interesting tutorial on creating '2D' style, 'flat' vector shapes in Cinema 4D. I don't usually use C4D as I feel that my style is better suited to an illustrative, 2D format.

The client I am working with would like the continuation of the 'blueprint' style used on their films, so I had a play around with a 2d look in C4D to complement this. The scene in question is to have coins dropping into piles.

I am quite happy with how it has turned out and I am definitely going to use C4D more to complement my 2D animations.
